This month I worked hard to create a Ladue View. Our class had been lacking in content and motivationand Marissa Glantz and I were determined to change that. We featured multiple packages and other news formats we haven't previously explored. We even have a weather man. Marissa and I are at it again, working on out last hurrah in the form of a Senior Edition of Ladue View! Stay tuned!!

This month I focused on making a video about overweight youths, highlighting a friend of mine who went through a personal journey of weight loss with the help of Camp Jump Start, a camp I have profiled in the past. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to make a well rounded story, with the credibility of CJS and Katie's incredible journey. I had fun making this video even though Final Cut decided I wouldn't cooperate. I'm also excited that we will FINALLY be producing a Ladue View! This month we are creating two projects, one a mini project and another a longer format video. I've just uploaded my mini project, a B-roll package about Neuro-Day, and event the St. Louis Science Center recently held to educate people about their brain. It was an incredible event and interesting to film because although there were real brains and it was such a cool shot, I wasn't legally allowed to film the brains. So I had to get creative with angles and such. This project was originally meant to be a mini-package with two interviews, one from the guy who was in charge of the event and another from a researcher who is working on developing a way for amputees to have a sense of touch through their prosthetic limbs. However to my dismay, although I thought I had seen the audio levels and had switched the cameras to the correct input, there was NO audio, nor was there any for the b-roll clips, which is why there's no nat sound =( This month I have focused on finishing up my Circus Harmony video and will film all of the interviews this weekend, which is why I did a multimedia page. I did a really quick video with just a 20 second sound byte from the director of Circus Harmony with B-roll over it. To accompany it I wrote an article centering on the efforts they have made in the community and around the world to make a change and be a change agent as that is the theme of the video I'll be producing for HEC-TV after I complete the interviews. I was asked by my dad, whose a board member at the circus to produce it, coincidentally the video will have dual use as I'll be submitting it to HEC-TV for their Change Agent themed show focusing on social issues. Always discuss with the person who you're making the video to make sure they like the setting for the interviews and the way they're composed. I plan to not let myself screw up and backlight the interviews or procrastinate which I am famously good at. During January was a bit hectic despite the absence of videos. In the first week back from winter break HEC-TV came to our studio at Ladue to interview Marissa and myself about GSNN, the international platform we've created to display student content. Later that month I began filming a video on Circus Harmony commissioned by their Board of Directors filming is still going on and will compete this weekend.
WARNING DO NOT READ IF UNDER THE AGE OF 12. I had some trouble thinking of what my video should be centered on. I'm Jewish, but we've always celebrade Christmas because of my Step Mother, and she and we have always had an Elf on the Shelf. It was short and fun to film, eventhough I had to make sure to put the Elf back where I found it as not to ruin the Magic of Christmas. This was a mobile journalism project, which I was nervous about, but it ended up being really easy. I filmed it on my iPhone but editied using iMovie on the iPad. I've made videos in the past with CJS, but this one was a bit harder. The camp was near empty so I needed to be creative with my shots as not to show that. With the chatter surrounding the new schedule we have Ladue View decided to Produce an investigative show covering various topics ranging from homework to seminar to AP & Advanced classes to The Ram Day. These videos focused on all of the problem areas which were highly discussed last year. Because this show is over a topic that is of such high debate, we have worked extra hard to produce videos that are even and give all parties and outlet to voice their side. The show will air in December, tune into HEC-TV to see our show along with Ladue Schools Today! My instructor, Mr. Don Goble, had the idea this year to create a platform for students around the world to submit videos which follow a monthly theme. Marissa and I have taken on GSNN.weebly.com!! The Idea behind the Global Student News Network (@GlobalSNN) is to get students K-20 working with video, and telling stories. It's been so much fun to see all of the different submissions from across the country and now the world. It's exciting when I check the site statistics and see a new country. The Bahamas, New Zealand, Singapore, etc. Marissa and I can't wait to see what videos the world is working on!! #GSNN This year, Ladue introduced an new schedule which has sparked mixed reactions from students, teachers, and parents. At Ladue View, we've decided to produce an in depth investigative show looking into how the new schedule has impacted AP and Advanced Classes, and Homework. We're also looking into the new Ram Day and the restructured AC Lab, now Seminar.
I'm documenting homework and interviewing multiple students, teachers, and parents. I'm excited to see how the show turns out and what the general concuss will be among the different demographic. Next week we leave for JEA 2015 in Orlando!! Classmates and I are SOOOO EXCITED!! |
