I set out with a mind set that this PSA was going to be a good one. I had been wanting to do a texting and driving PSA for a while, but had not come up with a good enough idea, that I like and that people might believe could actually happen. Even then, my story board was completely different than the video i published. For starters, I wanted to make the video like someone was jamming out to a song, more like distracted driving. However on the shoot, things were't going as planed and the music I originally wanted to use, I was told I couldn't. So I used some of the original footage and put together a rough cut of someone just texting and driving, with the crash at the end. I added in some music that I wasn't in love with and thought it was okay, but the music wasn't right. Earlier in the week, I found this artist, Lucy Spraggan, who had just put out her debut album. Giving that I had been listening to this song for about two days straight, I don't know how I didn't make the connection earlier, her song "You're Too Young" had the perfect chorus to match the PSA! I needed to get her record label's permission, due to copyright. So come Broadcast Tech, I decide to go onto her official website to find out if I can contact her or her record label in anyway, there was a contact email. I composed the email and told her who I was, what Ladue View is, and why I wanted her music, saying how wonderful it would be if she supported the fight against texting and driving. I sent the email, expecting her not to respond. When I got out of water polo practice, I was flicking through my music when my email came in, and one was a reply, from Upside Records, the record label Ms. Spraggan is signed to. They were happy to let me used the music, they also wanted me to send a link to the video so that Lucy could see it too. This is by far, my favorite video I've done, and I think it was one of my best.
