This month I created three factoids for HEC-TV's Explore! Maps show. My factoids were about the longest town name in the world, the largest city in the world, and the only city in the world that spans two continents. The longest town name is in Welsh, which has different sounds for different letter combinations, thankfully I was able to find a song on YouTube to teach me how to say it - now it just rolls of my tongue (kind of). Learning to say the town name was the hardest bit for me. I used Photoshop to create the visuals and animated them using Final Cut, much like I did for my package for HEC-TV about computer speed and transistors. It was a lot of fun making these and can't wait for the Explore! live shows.

To start off the year, we created six word stories. I had a vision of what I wanted to share, but it wasn't until sharing my ideas with my friends in class I was able to start really formulating the video. On Sunday, with a DSLR in hand, I started filming. It only took around four hours to film and edit the video in its entirety. I really like this video because it's showing the world a very important part of me in a way that's very poetic. I used Twitter and Snapchat to promote my videos (pictured left). For this final we had the option to do a how to, what not to do, or a tour of a significant location. I chose to do a how to video, pretending to be a YouTuber. This DIY project was fun to make the video for even though I ran into a few snafus when filming. I know this is better than my final last year which was Sabrina the Teleporting Girl. We were required to use WALLDO (Wide, Angled, Low, Linking, Depth, and Opposite), a sequence designed to make a great video, and to fit a seventh shot in there. For music I used Bensound.com which has some great tunes to put behind videos. It's been a great year, but next year will be even better. This month, Marissa and I did the senior video. We decided we wanted to feature each senior and tell their story in individual segments. I had responcibility over Jelissa, Edan, and Lillian - Marissa did the videos for Phillip, Jane, and Erin. We had alot of fun making these videos and will miss these seniors deerly. This video was...stressful, or perhaps tedious is a better word, or what about infuriatingly satisfying. All of the visuals - the transistors, the app opening, the music notes and speakers, etc. - are all original media, meaning I spent the time in Photoshop to make EVERYTHING. I learned a lot about Photoshop, including that you can use Photoshop files in Final Cut, but it makes Final Cut incredibly slow. In the end I feel like I put so much into this video and I got everything back in return. This is the most proud of a video I've been in a long time. And it's the first video I wasn't afraid to show my teacher, Mr. Don Goble. This final was defiantly more fun for me than I originally thought it would be. Upon receiving the prompts - black and white, day and night, left or right, win or lose - I was lost and had absolutly no idea where to take it. Eventually I settled on a personal profile on Katie Korein. We had a blast filming this as she and I are very close friends. Katie was featured in my Camp Jump Start video, where she talked about how much camp means to her. In this video I looked into what camp taught her, how she applies it to her life, and what she took away from her situation as a whole. This month I did a multimedia package about the Ladue Band Buddy Program. I filmed at my friend Maya's house, who is a band buddy herself. I new about the program because I'm in band and actually applied to be a buddy teacher. I liked the idea, but I could have executed it better. I tried going completely mobile, filming b-roll and interviews on my phone and iPad. I really liked how the interviews turned out and was pleasantly surprised. This months video was actually supposed to be made last month, but scheduling conflicts prevented that. But this month I set off for the World Bird Sanctuary and had a blast filming Ladue Senior Anastasia Maranto as she did her volunteer work at the Sanctuary. I even got scared out of my whits when a parrot squawked a "HELLO!" at me as I walked by. I really like this video and hope that everyone else does too. |
