According to the CDC, more than 1/3 of children and Adolescence in America are overweight or obese. And despite the many physical consequences, for many being an overweight youth leaves lasting social and psychological scars. Katie Korein, a senior at Parkway Central High School is one such teen who's felt the pains of being an overweight youth. However in her early teens, attempting diets and other weight loss regimens Katie found solace in Camp Jump Start. A weight loss camp for kids ages 9-17. Through exercise classes like strength training, aerobics, and cardio Camp Jump Start ensures success to every camper.

Registered Nurse and Camp Jump Start founder Jean Huelsing says that camp is really all about self confidence and self efficacy. Through their “Wellness In Teens” program they help kids cope with the psychological and emotional issues that come with being overweight or obese. Pairing this with nutrition class Camp Jump Start hopes to catapult their campers into lifelong success.
